Teacher
Weng has been in the allied health profession
for almost 12 years. She started as a
full-time Speech Pathologist at Cupertino
Center for Special Children and a part-time
therapist at the Rehabilitation Department
of Santo Tomas University Hospital. She
worked in these institutions for seven
years. It was when she got married that
she moved to the south and started working
as a part-time Speech Pathologist and
Reading Teacher at Communicare Therapy
Center for Children. She graduated with
a Bachelors Degree in Speech Pathology
from the University of the Philippines,
Manila in 1993. She also became a lecturer
at the Department of Speech Communication
and Theater Arts in UP Diliman. She became
Lecturer II in November 1995 at the College
of Allied Medical Professions, Department
of Speech Pathology in UP Manila. At present,
she is the Program Director of Trails
Center for Children.
Teacher
Weng has handled children with communication
problems due to autism, attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder, mental retardation,
cerebral palsy, hearing impairment and
cleft lip and palate. She is also handling
reading intervention sessions for children-at-risk.
She is currently finishing her research
paper for the completion of her Masters
degree in Reading Education at UP Diliman,
where she also became a University Scholar
in SY 1998-99.
She
has been a Board Member of the Philippine
Association of Speech Pathologists (PASP)
from December 1995-May 2000. She is currently
a member of the Autism Society of the
Philippines, Reading Association of the
Philippines and International Reading
Association. She attended numerous seminars
on autism, attention deficit hyperactivity
disorder, congenital abnormalities as
well as conferences on literacy.
She
spends quality time with her husband and
they consider themselves as movie buffs.
Her interests include swimming, reading
and baking. She initially wanted a clinic
in the comfort of her own home so she
can conceive a child, little did she know
that the clinic will grow to become a
center with over a hundred clients served
in its first year. Her commitment, dedication
and experience paved the way for an unusual
offspring-Trails Center for Children.
